![]() ![]() There are several different pro's and cons about certain planets. This is part 2 of my colony guide where I teach you how to become a master colony builder. When trying to obtain a specific Tenant type, place only the objects required, then add any extra items that might interfere with that after the Tenant has arrived (such as Storage objects, which tend to summon generic Merchant Tenants). The first and one of the most important steps in building a colony is picking a planet. The area must be a fully-enclosed space with floor, walls, ceiling and background wall. Colony Deeds cannot just be placed willy-nilly, and will not summon a Tenant unless a bare minimum set of requirements are met. Objects can be added or removed at will, and as long as the specific Tenant's base needs are met, they will be happy. The bare minimum for a viable Tenant 'house'. Once placed and a Tenant is summoned, the Colony Deed will scan the room on a regular basis to make sure the bare minimum requirements for that Tenant are met, and only those requirements. If the objects placed in a structure meet the requirements for more than one type, then the Tenant with a highest priority number will spawn. Every object has one or more Tags attached to it, and the number of "blocks" those objects take up is tallied. The Colony Deed also scans all objects within the area to determine what type of Tenant it will summon. The door can also be wired in a way to prevent the Tenant from opening it if the player deems it necessary (such as prison settings and the like). There is no minimum size requirements on a room beyond the space needed to place the Deed, light source, door, and a single Tenant, with the exception of specialty tenants (see All Walks of Life guide for details). You should also check to make sure you don't have any gaps in the background walls. Platforms do not count as floors or ceilings. There must be at least 1 light source and one Door within the area. Walls, ceilings and floors can only have "holes" if they are filled with a Door of some type. The background wall cannot have any holes. When placed on a background wall, the Colony Deed scans the area to see if it meets the basic requirements for summoning a Tenant.
